Welcome to our in the community page, we will be updating throughout the year to highlight various activities that we are involved with.
This month, as part of our 150th anniversary celebration, we are giving away 1860 of our brooms to the local garden waste service, Charnwood. We want to celebrate this monumental event in a unique way whilst giving something back to our community at the same time. The free garden broom will be used as an incentive to encourage local residents to recycle their garden waste; a free garden broom will be distributed with every new brown bin subscription.
So why 1860 brooms? Well this is the year that we were first established.
Councillor Hilary Fryer, Charnwood Lead Member for the Environment and our Managing Director, Charles Bentley, promote the scheme.

After meeting Councillor Fryer we asked why it is so important to subscribe to the brown bin scheme and recycle garden waste...
She said ‘it is important to divert biodegradable items from ending up in landfill sites as it take up valuable space. Garden waste can be put to better use as compost, for land restoration projects’.
